Our Vision

As a living body of Jesus Christ, our vision at North Suburban Mennonite Church is to be a Christ-centered community, embodying Christ-like compassion, living with Christ-led courage.

Embodying Compassion

To embody Christ-like compassion, we will bear witness to the kingdom of God on earth so that God's healing and hope flow through us to the world. We will seek out and embrace opportunities to demonstrate caring concern, love and material support of all kinds to people near and far. In times of need, we will be ministers to each other in the church and on behalf of the church beyond its boundaries.

Jesus and Compassion

To understand what Christ-like compassion is, we look toward the example of Jesus and the way he showed compassion to others. Jesus deliberately included all people and ministered to their needs. He acted out his faith in addition to praying for those around him.

• Reaching out to the woman at the well (John 4:7-30)
• Forgiving Zaccheus, a tax collector (Luke 19:1-10)
• Feeding five thousand people (Matthew 14:13-21)
• Responding to the woman who washed his feet (John 12:1-8)
• Forgiving the man on the cross (Luke 23:32-43)

Compassion for Others

• Congregational donations of money, time, and energy
• Support and donations for Mennonite Central Committee, Illinois Mennonite Conference, and other Mennonite service organizations
• Support and donations for Ten Thousand Gardens, Manna Initiative, Tierra Nueva, PADS, and other local organizations
• Respond to the needs of others as they arise
