Christ-Centered Community

North Suburban is an extension of my family. They encourage me to be the best person that I can be. They push me to great heights and are ready to catch me if I fall.

Our Vision

As a living body of Jesus Christ, our vision at North Suburban Mennonite Church is to be a Christ-centered community, embodying Christ-like compassion, living with Christ-led courage.

Being Community

To be a Christ-centered community, we will be a committed, nurturing Anabaptist community which celebrates our unity in Christ in the midst of the diversity of God's family. We will support each other in our spiritual, human and material needs. We will challenge each other to faithful living. We will maintain open communication with each other in a spirit of love and respect. We will commit to spiritual discipline to further our relationship with God.

Jesus and Community

To understand what Christ-centered community is, we look toward the example of Jesus and the ways in which he fostered community among people and invited people to join him.

Community for Each Other

There are numerous examples of how we are community for each other.

  • Congregational sharing and prayer as a part of each worship service and a prayer chain for other times
  • Participation in worship and music
  • Extended family for each other, particularly since most of us do not live near family
  • Vulnerability and accountability to each other
  • Youth group activities
  • Potluck meals and social activities
  • Connections to the broader Mennonite church through conferences and conference publications
  • Connections to area churches
